We believe that as we experience God’s love for us, we want to share what we have known with others! And so we have several ongoing mission projects and partnerships. Each year before Super Bowl Sunday, our Jr. Church children and youth lead us in collecting cans of soup and money for our local Food Pantry. The outpouring is amazing! We support the Backpack Program and serve at the Community Banquet. At Christmas time, we ‘giveaway’ gifts to the Dakota Association churches on Cheyenne Sioux River Tribe, Standing Rock, and Rosebud. Our deacons have an active outreach to our homebound and ‘shut-ins.’ Each year, they coordinate two “Feed My Lambs” meals to be taken out to our members.
We also provide support for Placerville, our church camp, outside of Rapid City. We are delighted to house the Montessori Preschool and also the Dakota Association offices. We also have provided space for community events and now host the local National Alliance on Mental Illness support groups and meetings in our space. We continue to listen for God’s still speaking voice and are actively exploring ongoing opportunities for partnership with the churches of the Dakota Association, Indian churches led by Indian pastors serving our communities on four reservations.
We believe that the Christian life is not simply a set of beliefs to learn about, or about learning the books of the Bible, but rather by practicing the life that Jesus set before us – becoming ‘disciples’ of Jesus’ teaching – that it is more blessed to give than to receive; that those who are blessed are those who mourn and are peacemakers. We practice forgiveness and recognizing our own need for forgiveness. We practice kindness and compassion rather than judgment. We are a congregation that celebrates diversity and welcomes people wherever they are on life’s journey. We do not have a creed that we all must assent to, rather each of us has the responsibility and freedom to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. To that end, we are always seeking and searching and listening. We don’t have all the questions worked out. We don’t have easy, pat answers for every situation and circumstance, but believe that by God’s power at work in us, ‘all things work together for good to those who love the Lord.”
We have several opportunities for our children, youth and adults to participate in not only being educated, but growing in faith! Our Jr. Church meets alongside of us on Sunday mornings, gathering with us until about 10:15 and then going to their own classes. There are adult Bible studies in various groups throughout the church and we’re happy to help you find one! During Lent, we have a Soup and Study event that is always a highlight of the year for us. Confirmation for our youth is a two year program and begins in 8th grade. In the summer, we host a Summer Faith Adventure(the old Vacation Bible School) which welcomes kids from all across the community to learn more about Christ through Bible stories, games, crafts, music and even science.
